Collection Flap

Flap is a modular upholstered furniture collection by the Italian brand S•CAB, designed by Meneghello Paolelli for residential and professional environments. The system combines upholstered seating modules with integrated support surfaces, allowing different configurations to be created for restaurants, hotels, lounge areas and outdoor terraces.

Flap — S•CAB modular upholstered furniture

The concept behind Flap is based on the contrast between generous upholstered cushions and a lightweight tubular structure that defines their form. The frame appears to wrap around the soft elements while remaining visually open, creating a distinctive balance between volume and lightness.

The collection's signature feature is the movable Flap backrest element from which the system takes its name. Mounted on the tubular frame, it can rotate by approximately 15°, changing the angle of the supporting cushion and allowing the seating position to adapt to the user.

A modular system of 8 elements

Flap consists of eight elements that can be combined to create different configurations according to the geometry of the space. This modular approach makes the collection particularly suitable for hospitality projects: rather than specifying a single restaurant sofa with a fixed form, designers can create linear, corner or more complex seating compositions.

Seating modules can be combined with support surfaces, allowing the system to provide both comfortable seating and convenient space for drinks, personal belongings or decorative objects without introducing unrelated furniture into the composition.

Flap for restaurants, hotels and lounge areas

The collection is designed for flexible use across commercial interiors. Flap can be specified for restaurant lounge areas, hotel lobbies, waiting areas, informal meeting spaces and other environments where comfortable upholstered seating is required without introducing visually heavy furniture.

Thanks to its open structure, even a substantial modular arrangement retains a sense of visual lightness. Flap can therefore be positioned not only against walls but also as a freestanding composition within a larger space, where it can help define different areas without permanent partitions.

Indoor and outdoor within one design language

S•CAB developed Flap as a system that reduces the distinction between indoor and outdoor living. The collection is conceived for a range of residential and professional settings, from interiors to open-air spaces.

This makes Flap suitable not only for restaurant and hotel interiors but also as part of a scheme featuring outdoor sofas for hospitality terraces, provided that the selected configuration, materials and finishes are specified by the manufacturer for outdoor use.

Designed by Meneghello Paolelli

Flap was designed by Meneghello Paolelli, the Milan-based studio founded by Marco Paolelli and Sandro Meneghello. For Flap, the designers transformed a structural backrest component into both a functional feature and the defining visual element of the entire collection.

The slender metal frame emphasises the form of the upholstered elements, while the ability to combine modules allows the same design language to adapt to very different spaces — from a compact seating group to a large modular sofa arrangement.
